Features

Tuning (Tsugaru shamisen): reference tones for the first, second and third strings in honchoshi, niagari and sansagari, for keys 1 through 12. Cycle playback repeats the three strings at a fixed interval.
Tuner: detects the pitch through the microphone and shows the note name and the deviation on an arc meter (reference pitch A4 = 435-446 Hz, sharp/flat note names).
Tempo detection: listens to your playing through the microphone and shows the tempo (BPM) you are actually playing at.
Tempo from 30 to 300 BPM (±1 and ±5 buttons).
Time signatures 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, 7/8, 9/8 and 12/8. Compound and irregular meters get a secondary accent at the head of each group.
Accent on the first beat can be turned on and off.
Tempo Keep Practice: the sound and blinking stop for the number of bars you choose, so you can train yourself to hold a steady tempo through the silence.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Does it play sound when the ringer is silenced?

Yes. The click is designed to sound even when the silent switch is on, so you can use it during practice.

Q. Does it keep playing when the screen turns off or I switch apps?

Playback continues while the screen is locked or another app is in front. Press the stop button in the app to stop it.

Q. How does Tempo Keep Practice work?

Turn on Tempo Keep Practice and choose a number of bars. The app plays that many bars, then mutes the sound and the blinking for the same number of bars. It trains you to keep a steady tempo through the silent stretch.

Q. Is the audio from the tuner or tempo detection recorded?

No. Microphone audio is used only to calculate pitch and the spacing between attacks, on your device. Nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted. The microphone is active only while the Tuner or Tempo screen is open.

Q. I denied the microphone permission by mistake.

You can grant it again from the "Open Settings" button on the Tuner screen, or from Settings > ShamiTune > Microphone on iOS / Settings > Apps > ShamiTune > Permissions on Android. Every feature other than the tuner and tempo detection works without microphone access.

Q. Do you collect personal information?

No personally identifying information is collected. We collect only anonymous usage data (Google Analytics) to improve the app. See the Privacy Policy for details.
